Yearning for More is a blog started and run by two friends, Lauren S. and Taylor B., with similar passions and goals. After nearly a year of independent blogging, we have decided to join together on a larger scale project, creating a blog and community dedicated to two things: 1.) To encourage other teens to join us in publicly taking a stand against the lukewarm faith that is prevalent in our churches today; 2.) To motivate other teens in pursuing Jesus Christ with a radical, passionate faith.
Our first stated purpose is to "encourage other teens to join us in publicly taking a stand against the lukewarm faith that is prevalent in our churches today". We realize that lukewarmness is not a problem for today only; it has been a problem in our churches since the beginning of the church as an organized body (Rev. 3:14-22). Nor is this a problem limited to teens only, since many adults also fall prey to the same temptations as we (1 Cor. 10:13). However, as teenagers ourselves, we feel we can best speak to other teens. Teens can recognize, sympathize with, and address more clearly the issues facing other teens than they can address the problems facing adults or adults address the problems facing teens. Much of the content here will be theological, Biblical discussion and devotionals on living a gospel-centered faith rather than a lukewarm life.
Our second stated purpose is to "motivate other teens in pursuing Jesus Christ with a radical, passionate faith" (Ps. 27:8). At a time in church history where faith is too often treated as a trivial part of our lives rather than the all-consuming focus that Jesus desired when He calls us to follow Him (Lk. 9:23), our goal is to help encourage fellow teens, and ourselves with them, to look to Jesus as the center of our faith, actions, religion, philosophies, questions, and life. In short, we wish to inspire a Jesus-centric worldview in ourselves and in our fellow teenagers.
As you will find if you stick around for long, we are imperfect human beings. We are not inspired. We do not have all the answers. As is common in humans, we have, do, and will continue to make mistakes. What you read here, we beg you to measure against the standard of Scripture and the leading of the Holy Spirit in your own life to determine what you do and do not accept as truth. Feel free to point out any mistakes in doctrine or logic you may find here.
We mentioned above that this is a site intended to address teens and young adults. While that is true, adults are welcome, as are pre-teens. Doctrine is doctrine, and the Bible is intended for the entire congregation of believers, not only one particular age group. So, as regardless of age, gender, or denomination, you are welcome and we hope you are blessed by the content!
Comments and discussion, including dissenting ones, are welcome. There is a place for Christ-honoring, polite discussion, and it is welcome here as long as both viewpoints remain polite and respectful. We hope you are blessed by both the content and your time spent at Yearning for More. May Christ be glorified in everything we do!
